0.13 is the biggest release ReticulOS has had. It arrived on the Mac, gave Ret hands as well as answers, let you pick the AI behind it, and made backups free. 0.13.1 followed three days later, bringing Ret Agent's computer use to Windows and making it smoother everywhere.
On Linux and Windows the app updates itself when you choose Restart to update; on a Mac, download each new version.
0.13.1: Ret Agent in more places, with fewer stops
27 October 2026 on Linux and Windows, 28 October on the Mac.
- Ret Agent in your other apps, on Windows. Ret Agent can now open Windows apps, read their windows and use their buttons and fields, as it already could on Linux and the Mac. There's nothing to set up. Windows keeps apps running as administrator out of reach: Ret Agent can read them, but not type or click in them. How computer use works.
- No separate plan step. Ret Agent used to show a plan and wait for Approve plan before it started. Now it starts as soon as you ask, and lists each step as it goes. Anything that can't be undone, like submitting, paying, sending or deleting, still waits for Approve once.
- You can see it's at work. In the browser, a frame around the page shows Ret Agent is working on it: blue while it works, amber while it waits for you. On Windows and the Mac, a frame sits around the app it's using too, with a small label naming the app and a Stop button.
- Pointing where an app can't be read. When an app doesn't describe a control, Ret Agent can look at a picture of the window and click a spot on it. It checks what's under that spot first, and if nothing there can be read, it holds the step and asks you.
- A new document when you ask for one. “Open a new document and…” now opens a fresh one, instead of reusing whatever was already open.
- Fewer needless questions. Pressing Enter in an address bar or a search box is now treated as something that can be undone, so Ret Agent no longer stops to ask about it.
- Browser extension 0.3.1. If your browser is still running an older copy after the update, Settings → Ret Agent says so and tells you where to reload it.
0.13.0: ReticulOS on the Mac, and Ret Agent
24 October 2026 on Linux and Windows, 25 October on the Mac.
ReticulOS for Mac
- The whole app on Apple silicon Macs (M1 or later, macOS 13 or newer). It lives in the menu bar, with Mac shortcuts: ⌃⌥S saves the selected text, ⌃⌥R opens Ret, ⌃⌥/ searches, and you can change them in Settings → Shortcuts. Installing it has the details, including the one-time Open Anyway step.
Ret Agent (Pro)
- Ret does tasks, not only answers. Ask for a job and Ret Agent does it in your browser, through the ReticulOS extension: filling in forms from your notes, looking things up across sites, collecting details into a note. On Linux and the Mac it also works in your other apps. It shows every step, and waits for your OK before anything that can't be undone. Ret Agent in your browser.
- Add-ons. Packs give Ret Agent reviewed tools and reusable instructions, including MCP add-ons. Each one asks before it's added.
- 200 tasks a month on Pro, 160 on Student and 500 on the Founder Edition.
Your choice of AI (Pro)
- Your own API keys for Google, OpenAI or Anthropic. Keys are stored encrypted on your computer and only used to call that provider.
- A model on your computer. Settings → AI model → Download Local AI Prerequisites sets up a model that runs on your own computer, about 7 GB, once. After that, Ret works with no internet, and with on-device search your questions and notes stay on your computer.
- Your ChatGPT plan, as before. How to connect it.
Search
- Search by meaning in the search boxes. The search overlay and Reticulum's search box now have a by meaning section under the keyword results, so you find a note even when you don't remember its words. It runs on your computer, works offline, and never sends anything.
- Photos, PDF pages and moments in recordings. Describe a photo to find it, and a search can land on the matching page of a PDF or the matching moment of a recording, shown with its time.
- Ret watches and listens. When Ret AI answers, a short matching video goes along whole, and for longer ones the matching moment's sound, so it can answer about what's in them.
Backup and the vault
- Back up to a drive or a folder, free. Settings → Backup → On a drive or folder keeps a backup of everything, your notes, pictures, files, recordings, day book and vault, on a USB drive or any folder. It runs once a day when something changed, works offline with no account, and is encrypted with a recovery key you keep. Restore on this computer or a new one from the folder and that key. The newest 14 backups are kept.
- Vault recovery. If you forget your vault password, choose Recover vault, sign in again with the Google account it's linked to, and set a new one. This means our service can open a linked vault during recovery. The vault, explained.
A new look, and easier to get around
- A redesign of the widget, Reticulum and search, in light and dark.
- Trash. Deleted notes rest in the Trash for 30 days, where you can restore them, delete them for good, or empty it.
- Settings in one place, with Basic and Advanced views. Open it from Reticulum's sidebar, the tray, or the widget's gear.
- A command palette. CtrlK (⌘K on a Mac) jumps to any view, collection or action as you type.
- Back and forward through the places you've been, with Alt← and Alt→.
- Chat history. Ask keeps your past conversations, and you can reopen any of them.
- Help, and a first-run checklist. Press ? for shortcuts and pointers. New installs get a short checklist: save a note, make a collection, ask Ret, back up.
- Notes open beside your cards, instead of over them.
Linux
- Shortcuts on Wayland, out of the box. On GNOME the app now adds its shortcuts to GNOME's keyboard settings the first time it starts, so they work on Wayland as well as X11. A switch in the widget's settings menu removes them or puts them back.
The releases before this one, from the first beta to 0.10, are in the earlier release notes.
